Eaves hardware and oval dome hardware

3D design/Mechanical Design/production

The process until delivery▼

A project request from Leading architectural firm. We received an order for steel frames and metal parts expressed in Complex 3D geometries.
We were provided with architectural detailed drawings, cross-sections (2D data), Rhinoceros 3D models (surfaces), and BIM data, and after numerous meetings with the architects and designers, we carried out detailed design, mechanism design, and production. We also carried out preliminary assembly verification, and were informed that there was no need for re-production or rework, and that on-site construction was completed without any problems.
The customer praised us, saying, "You delivered a high-quality product in a short period of time."

Mechanical Design/
Polygonal metal frame production

The process until delivery▼

Immediately after receiving the request, we used a 3D printer to create a 1/20 scale mockup out of resin to verify whether it was possible to realize the project and to share the image.
After that, based on the provided 3D data, we checked the on-site construction method and then designed and manufactured the mechanism, taking into consideration the connections, fixing in various places, and construction methods. As we were involved in the design, we were also in charge of managing part of the on-site assembly work.

The project started with the provision of an image perspective and Rhinoceros data. The Rhinoceros data only contained surface information, so in order to make the whole structure work, we used the surface as the base and designed the internal mechanism. The Rhinoceros data was also expressed as curves and there were discrepancies in the data connections, so we also corrected the 3D data. After that, we produced a sample and received approval before starting the actual production. This project also involved using a new production method that we had never tried before, which was an experience that helped us grow.

Based on the provided 3D data (surface), we conduct a simple strength analysis to make it feasible, and provide feedback to the client on the size, shape, and fixing location. Finally, the designer checks it, decides on the fit, and proceeds with the mechanism design using 3D CAD. Then, we start sheet metal production.

IBM: system-One/syetem-Two: mockup

IBM has a research facility in Kawasaki City, where a real quantum computer exists. IBM requested that they could exhibit the internal design to their customers, so we decided to create a mockup. Crafting a full-scale mockup from limited resources—utilizing only online images and dimensions to design every component from scratch. The computer is currently on display around the world.
